The verified roster
Prehistoric Farm names its creatures after real prehistoric species, and the islands are organized by the geological period those creatures actually lived in. Everything in this first table is confirmed by playthrough footage, the official game text or code rewards:
| Creature | Where it comes from | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Hallucigenia | Cambrian fossil set | First hatchling for most players; observed ~5:00 egg timer |
| Pikaia | Cambrian fossil set | Cambrian-period species |
| Opabinia | Cambrian fossil set | Five-eyed Cambrian oddity |
| Trilobite fossil pieces | Cambrian digs | Set material, not a hatchable creature |
| Tiktaalik | Devonian fossil set | Famous “fishapod”; observed ~2:30 egg timer |
| Diplodocus | NESSIEISHERE code (retired) | Event egg reward |
| Velociraptor | UPDATE1 code (active) | Current free egg — grab it on the codes page; cited as the fastest mount |
| Allosaurus | WEDIDIT code (active) | Current free egg |
| Mosasaurus | Ocean boss (co-op, spears) | Not hatched — fought |
| Nessie | Event-era creature (community-reported) | Featured in the Nessie event |
| Raptor X | Update 1 content | Boss/content line; remnants are a code reward |
| Flying dinosaurs | Update 1 — Sky Spires quest | Video-reported, unverified details |

The reported rarity tier table (use with care)
A widely-copied roster table circulates on fan sites assigning rarities to a nine-species core: Compsognathus and Parasaurolophus (Common), Ankylosaurus and Stegosaurus (Uncommon), Velociraptor and Triceratops (Rare), Brontosaurus (Epic), Spinosaurus and T-Rex (Legendary). The structure is plausible — it matches the game’s period progression — but no official source or in-game footage has verified the rarities, and no coin/Robux prices have been published for any species. We reproduce it here, clearly labeled, because it is the consensus starting point; we will replace it with a verified table as footage lands.

What Update 1 added
The October 11-12 update expanded the top of the roster: five mythic-rarity dinosaurs, the Raptor X line, and flying dinosaurs earned through the Sky Spires quest (needs the fishing rod and Silver shovel per video titles). The full update breakdown is in the update log. The old SORRYFORDELAYS code also proved one special category exists: an aquatic dinosaur that replaces your boat — no longer obtainable via code, but the mechanic is confirmed.

From list to hatchery
Every tameable creature follows the same pipeline: fossil set → Dr. Ivy egg → incubator → feeding → Elder → riding. The loop is documented in the beginner guide, the conversion step in the DNA guide, and the growth stages in the riding guide. Which ones are worth the grind is ranked in best dinosaurs — and the two free eggs currently available from codes are the cheapest head start in the game.
